Things aren’t looking good for Megyn Kelly after she said that she didn’t understand why doing blackface was considered racist earlier this week. While rumors of an impending firing swirl, a new report claimed that Today is already talking to someone about being Megyn’s replacement… and it’s a familiar face for NBC!

The network is reportedly considering making The Voice judge Kelly Clarkson the newest member of the morning show squad. NBC execs “think it might be the perfect time to give her Today time slot to Kelly, who has a huge fan base and is extremely well-liked and relatable,” a source told Radar on Thursday, Oct. 25.

While Megyn, 47, has rubbed some of her crew the wrong way, the people who work on Today all “love” Kelly, who was actually just on set on Oct. 11 to perform for the International Day of the Girl. “[Kelly] is a huge part of the NBC family,” said the source.

Apparently, people have already approached Kelly about it, and she’s quickly falling in love with the idea. “[She’s] willing to take on any job thrown her way,” said another source. Producers think that Kelly is a good choice because she’s entirely non-controversial. “Kelly is the most non-biased person on the planet, and does not have an ounce of racism in her,” said an insider.

The drama started on Oct. 23, when Megyn was talking about controversial Halloween costumes with her guest co-hosts Melissa Rivers, Jenna Bush Hager, and NBC News correspondent Jacob Soboroff. Megyn repeatedly said that she didn’t think it should be considered racist for a white person to do blackface on Halloween, as long as they were emulating a character. She pointed to Luann de Lesseps dressing up as Diana Ross, to which Jacob responded, “I haven’t seen it, but it sounds pretty racist to me.”

Fans agreed, and they were outraged. The backlash was so intense that Megyn gave a tearful apology the next day. Unfortunately, it sounds like her epiphany came too late. Her show won’t air for the remainder of the week, and she’ll reportedly be talking to a lawyer to negotiate her exit from Today.
