Gone, but never forgotten. John Stamos paid tribute to his late father Bill John Stamos with a heartwarming message on July 6, acknowledging how much he misses having him around. The 54-year-old actor took to Instagram with a throwback photo of his "best friend," showing them smiling together while having dinner.

"17 years ago I lost my best friend. Dad, I appreciate you right now more than ever," John wrote. The Full House star's dad passed away in 1998 and to add to his heartache, he later lost his mother, Loretta Stamos, in September 2014. Fans were sympathizing with his loss to the fullest, and several sent him love and support in the comment section. "I’m sure he’s watching over you and your family and very happy and proud ❤️," one wrote. "He must have been a great guy. He did a good job raising you," another added.

John has been very outspoken about the incredible bond he shared with his parents, even giving them a special shout-out while accepting his prize at the TV Land Icon Awards in 2016. "I want to thank my parents," he said, while getting visibly emotional and holding back tears. "Boy, they would've loved this, Loretta and Bill… They were really good people. They taught me to be kind and to be generous and to be loving to everyone that you meet on this journey." It's even more bittersweet now that John is a father.

John and his wife Caitlin McHugh welcomed their first child, Billy, in April. And the actor is loving every minute of parenthood, recently sharing a video of his son dancing. Only a few weeks ago, John celebrated his first Father's Day and it was definitely sentimental. "It means when people ask me if I'm a father, I don't have to use the goofy line, 'No, but I play one on TV,'" he captioned the photo of him and Billy. "My first Father’s Day means that from this day forward, I will start to look my age (and older) Most importantly, it means that for the rest of my life, I’ll always be known as someone’s dad. And that’s all I ever wanted."
