Jane Fonda Opens Up About Her ‘Ongoing’ Battle With Cancer: ‘I Was a Sun-Worshipper’
So strong! Jane Fonda is opening up about her recent — and still “ongoing” — battle with cancer.
“I’ve had a lot of cancer,” she confessed to British Vogue. “I was a sun-worshipper. When I have a day off, I frequently go to my skin doctor and have things cut off me by a surgeon.” By going to a surgeon, Jane was left with many bruises on her body. In order to hide them, she would wear specific gowns to red carpet events.
The 81-year-old recalled going to the 2016 Golden Globes in a long white gown because it was the only outfit that would hide her scars. “I get out of the car and I have the strange white dress with all the ruffles?” she said. “That’s because I’d just had a mastectomy and I had to cover my bandages.”
Even though Jane was very good at hiding it all, she couldn’t hide what cancer was doing to her body when she showed up to a BUILD Series event with a bandage over her lower lip on January 15.
“I just want to explain the bandage,” she told the crowd, according to ET. “I just had a cancer taken from my lip. I thought it was going to heal in time before I came before you, but it’s fine. I just want to explain it. I don’t normally go around like this.”
After the event, she shared a photo of herself and friend Lily Tomlin to Instagram after the event, she showed the world that she still has a few tricks up her sleeve. “With Lily in NY. I’ve found a clever way to disguise my lip bandages from removal of cancer,” she joked in the caption alongside a photo of her covering her mouth with her hand.
We applaud Jane for being so open and brave.
