While co-hosting on the Today Show on Thursday, Feb. 16, Jenna Bush Hager revealed her parents, George W. Bush and Laura Bush, were planning to adopt a child before they got pregnant with their twins.
“You know, my parents put in their adoption papers before [my sister Barbara Bush] and I were born,” the 35-year-old told co-star Kathie Lee Gifford.

“They tried for five years and they weren’t getting pregnant — and I have a picture by my bed [of my parents] actually that they had sent to the adoption agency and my mom always says, ‘Doesn’t this look like a couple that’s just desperate for children?’ — and then the day they found out they’d been accepted to adopt, they found out they were pregnant with us,” Jenna continued.
“This happens when a couple says, ‘Ok, we’re gonna [adopt],’ and then they relax [and get pregnant],” Kathie Lee, 63, chimed in.
“So they stopped the adoption because she was pregnant — she had twins, [and] believe me, we were a handful!” Jenna added. Too funny!

George, 70, and Laura, also 70, tied the knot in November 1977 and welcomed twins Jenna and Barbara in November 1981. Now, Jenna has two daughters of her own. She welcomed Margaret Laura “Mila” Hager, 3, and Poppy Louise Hager, 1, with husband Henry Hager in April 2013 and August 2015, respectively.
During a previous Today appearance, Jenna was told by Hollywood Medium Tyler Henry that she will also have a baby boy in the future!
“As far as children go, [I’m predicting] that there’s going to be a little boy that will be born,” Tyler said. “Oh my gosh… So I’m going to have a baby boy? Ahh!” Jenna replied with a laugh. So cool!
