She was the one. Chip Gaines has been married to his wife Joanna for 16 years — and it was meant to be because their relationship was something the TV star felt great about right from the get go.

Chip, 44, met who would be the love of his life while she was working at her father’s Firestone automotive shop in Waco, Texas, and the direction of his life changed quickly afterwards. “It felt like there was this real transition. I matured and grew up,” he told People. “It just kind of clicked in my brain: ‘This is going to work.’”

However, before meeting Joanna, 41, Chip never really saw himself settling down. “I had to make a lot of changes,” he recalled. ”I had to be a better person. But when I thought about the idea of being an 80-year-old man sitting on a rocking chair with my beautiful wife, and for she and I to have made it [that far], I got really excited.”

Seems like the Fixer Upper star went from doing what he “wanted to do” to dedicating his life to his wife and their family. Lovely! Today, the pair are still crazy about each other, and they share five kids — Drake, 14 twins Duke and Ella, 13, Emmie, 9, and baby Crew, 1. On May 31, the couple celebrated their wedding anniversary, and once again proved how in love they are.

“16 years and it feels like we’re just getting started … I love you Chip Carter Gaines,” Joanna wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the two smiling. The lovebirds have gone on to work together and have created a huge empire. Next summer, we can all expect to see their very own TV network make its debut.

“We want honest, authentic programming that brings families together. We believe David Zaslav [CEO of Discovery] and the team at Discovery are the perfect partners for this ambitious joint venture, and we know Allison Page is the right person to lead this charge. We’re ready to get started and are expectant for all that’s ahead,” the duo said of the channel in a joint statement.

Joanna and Chip are marriage goals, everybody!
