It’s been quite some time since Cameron Diaz last graced our big or small screen with her electrifying smile and bubbly personality. Since then, the beloved Charlie’s Angels actress has been living a more quiet life in Hollywood with her husband of four years, Benji Madden.

Opening up for InStyle‘s 25th anniversary issue, the 46-year-old beauty defended her decision to take a Hollywood hiatus and gave fans a glimpse into her life post superstardom. “I started [experiencing fame] when I was 22, so 25 years ago — that’s a long time,” Cameron began.

“The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world,” she explained. “If I decide to.”

The Shrek actress also revealed that she doesn’t regret her decision to stay out of the limelight — especially when it came to acting. “I don’t miss performing,” she candidly admitted. “Right now I’m looking at the landscape of wellness and all that. But whatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about, something that just feels effortless.”

Cameron also said that staying off the radar is super important to her — especially in a time when social media is so prevalent. “It’s fun to just not have anybody know what I’m up to. Because my time is all mine,” she explained. “I’m not selling any films, and because I’m not selling anything, I don’t have to give anybody anything. I’m not doing this anymore. I’m living my life.”

Considering she doesn’t have to worry about all the Hollywood hoopla, the There’s Something About Mary star dished that she plans on embracing what she has left of her 40s. “You know, I think the 40s are the best decade. You just get to be real with yourself, and you can also make necessary changes because you have the experience of looking back on four decades.”

“I just want to build better, stronger friendships with the people who are in it with me,” she continued. “Of course, that includes my husband.”

Whether or not a Hollywood return is in the cards for Cameron, she knows her first ride was one she’ll never forget. “At this point, I’ve done so much, I feel fulfilled with the adventures I’ve sought out in my life,” she gushed. “I’m in a great place.”

Here’s to still hoping that we’ll see Cameron make a big return — in one way or another!
