Bindi Irwin Says Steve Irwin Would Support Her Getting Married

A close bond! Bindi Irwin‘s father, Steve Irwin, may be gone, but she strongly believes he would be happy about her current relationship and would completely support her getting married.

Bindi, 20, her brother, Robert, 15, and their mom, Terri Irwin, 54, attended the Paley Center Presents An Evening with The Irwins: Crikey! It’s the Irwins Screening & Conversation on Friday, May 3, and opened up about various topics. The eldest child was asked how her dad would feel about her relationship with her boyfriend, Chandler Powell.

“You know, Dad was so kind where he always said you had to follow your heart and do what you love and I think that that’s really wonderful,” Bindi said. “And my mom and brother have always been so supportive of me saying you just have to follow your heart through life, so I’m pretty lucky. So whenever I get married, if I get married, it’s pretty special.”

“I think that he’d just be saying just do what you love and be happy because that’s what life is all about,” she added. “It’s finding that happiness and you know, if you’re, if you’re able to find someone who completes your life journey then you just have to go with your heart.”

Bindi has been with Chandler, 22, for the past five years. The pair met during a trip to the zoo. The professional wakeboarder once revealed that while the couple has been together for quite some time, they do not have marriage on their brain yet.

“We’re really happy at the moment. We just love traveling together and working in the zoo,” he told People. In fact, in an interview with In Touch, Bindi also gave a very similar response when marriage was brought up.

“We’re so busy with everything, we haven’t had time to think about the pressure,” she said at the time. “We’re really enjoying the moment, adventuring around the world and having fun. We’ll let you know!”
