‘The Voice’ Coaches Allegedly Did Not Want Mariah Carey To Join The Show: ‘They Don’t Want The Drama!’
The “We Belong Together” singer can never seem to avoid drama! Mariah Carey is headed back to TV and this time she will be an advisor on season 15 of NBC’s The Voice. However, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies (get it because one of her albums is called Butterfly?) for the 48-year-old.
A source told Radar, “No one wanted her to join the show. They privately voiced their opinions and they were all overturned by NBC.” Mariah made the announcement on Instagram this past week on Oct. 22. The caption said, “It’s a MOMENT. I’m advising for the @NBCTheVoice Knockouts starting Monday 8/7c.”
Mariah will mentor aspiring singers alongside coaches Jennifer Hudson, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Levine. The source continued, “It was unanimous that the coaches didn’t want her and now they feel their voices don’t matter. They think it won’t be good for the show and they don’t want the drama and stress she brings to shows she’s on.”
Let’s not forget that the famous diva got candid on Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O show in 2015, describing her time on American Idol as “the worst experience of my life.” Strong words there, Mimi!
Mariah and Nicki Minaj feuded while on the show and she said, “I’m not going to get into what it was, but let’s just say I don’t think they had any intentions for us to have a good experience doing that show. Pitting two females against each other wasn’t cool. It should have been about the contestants instead of about some nonexistent feud that turned into even more ridiculousness.”
Why be a judge on a TV show again then, girl? The Radar insider said, “Mariah wants to be more full-time as a coach so she’s trying to make a name for herself on the show. This gig can allow her a chance to be a coach next season.” Wow, sounds like it’s going to be an interesting competition indeed — and maybe not just with the contestants, but the coaches too.
