She’s not holding anything back! Sandra Bullock recently opened up about her family in a way that we’ve never seen before — sharing personal anecdotes on everything from the taxing process of adopting her son Louis, 8, and daughter Laila, 6, to how great of a father-figure her boyfriend Bryan Randall is to her little ones.

Speaking with InStyle, the 53-year-old revealed the often scary reality behind being a mother in the spotlight. Before Sandra formally announced she had adopted a second child, Laila had an allergy scare that sent her to the ER. “We were followed by the paparazzi, so the word was out that I had another child. And everyone wanted photos. It was heartbreaking,” the Ocean’s 8 star explained. “Louis would hear a helicopter or drone, and he’d run to get his sister and drag her across the lawn and hide her under the trampoline. So poor Laila had PTSD. But it took the bounty off once we did those official photos. Everything’s a learning experience.”

Despite Sandra being able to provide a financially stable and loving home, she was still very much under scrunity during those first months after the adoption. “When you adopt a child, there’s a placement period, and if something goes sideways, they have the right to take the child away. It’s a tenuous, strenuous six months.” Fortunately, it all worked out for the better and Sandra’s family couldn’t be better.

In fact, the starlet couldn’t help but gush about how amazing (and different) Louis and Laila are. “Lou is supersensitive. I call him my 78-year-old son. He’s like Shecky Greene, a Jewish Catskills comic. He’s wise and kind. I saw that when they handed him to me. There was a spiritual bigness to him. I was like, ‘I hope I don’t eff that up,” she said. “And Laila is just unafraid. She’s a fighter, and that’s the reason she’s here today. She fought to keep her spirit intact. Oh my god, what she is going to accomplish. She’s going to bring some real change.”

As far as Sandra’s longtime boyfriend Bryan is concerned, the children adore him — perhaps even more than her! “For the kids he’s sort of No. 1 and I’m No. 2., but I get it because he’s more fun and has better treats.” Even if the mother-of-two is reportedly hesitant to tie the knot with her beau, it seems the pair has found the best arrangement that works for them.
