Our thoughts are with Ryan Gosling, whose dog, George, sadly died. The A-list actor visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, Oct. 6 — and revealed that his beloved pup sadly passed away last December at age 17.

The two were good friends, and it’s clear that the dad-of-two misses his pal since his newest accessory is a collection of dog tags around his neck. Watch the video below to see what Ryan revealed about George.

George’s death came just months after Ryan’s lady Eva Mendes’ brother lost his cancer battle. His funeral was the same week the couple welcomed their younger daughter, Amada.

Eva previously opened up about what that was like. “Losing my brother brought our family closer, and we were already close to begin with. So to just see everybody be there for one another and show up, I feel so lucky to have them,” the actress said. “And then they were there for me when Amada was born. We had a funeral service for him and that same week I had the baby. So it was really, really intense and obviously beyond heartbreaking, but also kind of beautiful.”

Fans were surprised that Ryan opened up about his dog’s passing considering he and Eva are super private about their home life. Not only do they barely make public appearances together, but they’re super hush-hush about their two little girls, Esmeralda and Amada. However, Eva once shared the super cute reason why she and her man never walk the red carpet together. “What people don’t know about me is that I love being home,” she confessed. “Instead of hitting the red carpet, I’d rather be with our girls.”

However, Ryan doesn’t believe now is a good time to get another dog with two young kids in the house even though they’re home with Eva a lot. When Ellen DeGeneres asked him about the possibility of another furry friend, he replied, “We’ll see.” Rest in peace, George.
