Parks and Recreation actor Rob Lowe is 54 years old, but he sure doesn’t look it! The youthful star credits his incredibly fit physique to his strict diet and exercise routine that has given him amazing results. And in the new issue of Men’s Health magazine, Rob admitted that he’s “vain as f–k” because every time he looks in the mirror he sees his 28-year-old self.

“I feel exactly like that guy. And I see him,” Rob said. “I’m fitter than I’ve ever been. More experienced [and] smarter. I’m not looking at a 20-year-old kid in a cape as my due north. I’m looking at a guy like [Bruce] Springsteen.”

As a handsome guy who keeps himself in tip-top shape, Rob doesn’t deny that he looks good and he doesn’t want other men to deny it either. “Men deny having vanity — that’s the greatest vanity,” he said. “Not me!”

When Rob works out, he starts off his day with circuit training, lifting and a 45-minute Peloton bike ride or run that he likes to do alone and without listening to music. “I don’t want to have the smoothie stand. I don’t want to look at beautiful women when I work out,” he shared. “I like the forced mental solitude of it. Inevitably, it will force you to start working through things you’re not going to if you’re listening to Jay-Z.”

Rob also opened up about his past alcohol abuse and said his fitness routine has helped him overcome his addiction. “It became an outlet for all of the tension, stresses [and] compulsivity,” the actor, who has been sober for nearly 30 years, said. “I funneled the addiction, frankly, into that.”

Lastly, Rob revealed his favorite workout is to go surfing with his two adult sons, Matthew Lowe, 26, and John Lowe, 24. “You’re always chasing a high,” he said. “Conditions change, so no waves ever just stay the same.”
