Famly feuds are never easy. Even when you’re in the royal family. According to excerpts from a new unauthorized autobiography written by Tom Bower called Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles, Prince Charles has felt threatened by Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s popularity over the years.

After Charles’ eldest son married Kate in April 2011, the couple spent a lot of time in Norfolk to protect their privacy. They also decided to spend Christmas with Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, something Charles seemingly didn’t like. “The distance between Highgrove and Norfolk isolated the Prince from his grandchildren, [Prince George and Princess Charlotte], and allowed Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, to take charge,” the book states, according to Daily Mail.

Since Charles was angry about William’s relocation, he allegedly decided to ignore Carole Middleton on social occasions. “Charles began to fear that he was being usurped by the Middletons, and several of the Queen’s courtiers picked up on this,” the book also states. “This so infuriated William that he consulted with his grandmother, [Queen Elizabeth]. To counter the hurtful snubs against Carole Middleton, the Queen then made a point of inviting a TV cameraman to film her driving the former air hostess around the Balmoral estate.” Interesting…

After Will and Kate tied the knot, “Charles grew worried that the public’s attention was switching to them,” the book states. However, his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, felt the opposite of her husband. “She didn’t give a damn,” notes Robert Higdon, the chief executive of Charles’ charity foundation. “[But] Charles saw Kate and William as the new stars and feared he’d be in trouble.” But Camilla wasn’t plagued by rumors that Kate will be the first commoner to become Queen of England. “That’ll be me,” she once quipped.
