For Patricia Heaton, ‘Carol’s Second Act’ Is the Perfect Series for This Stage of Her Life
You would think after starring in about 250-hours worth of television, actress Patricia Heaton would be ready to have some downtime to luxuriate a bit in the success she’s achieved as a three-time Emmy-winning star of the comedies Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle. But that’s obviously not the case given the fact that she’s returning to television this fall in her new sitcom, Carol’s Second Act. Spend more than a few minutes with her, though, and you know that it’s the way she prefers it.
“I think about what happened to my dad when he retired from the newspaper he worked it,” Patricia, 61, reflects at this year’s TCA gathering. “That was his life and I think he kind of went down rapidly from there. But I just think it depends on who you are. There are some people that just revel in travel and golf and doing that, and I love that, too, but it has to be bookended by work. I can only enjoy it if I just come off of a job or I know I’m going to a job. It’s just kind of the way I’ve been all my life.”
