We were originally just happy to be getting a second season of Big Little Lies, but now we’re all about Meryl Streep‘s addition to the cast — and so is Nicole Kidman! Back on Jan. 24, it was announced that the Academy Award-winning actress would be joining the already star-studded cast of the hit HBO show, and, now that they’ve started filming, Nicole couldn’t help but gush about working with Meryl on set.

“We’ve already been shooting. It’s so good. She’s just amazing, and to watch her do her craft, it really is artistic craft when you watch her, we’re all — Laura Dern, Shailene [Woodley], Zoe [Kravitz], Reese [Witherspoon] — we just go, gasp, can you believe it?” she revealed to Entertainment Tonight on Sunday, April 15. “She’s got a fantastic character. It’s also grounded and it’s based in something very, very real, and we hope we bring you the [best] second season and it delivers. We’re working hard.”

Even Nicole’s country superstar husband Keith Urban sang his praises for the beloved actress. “I love that she’s joined this crazy cast and this incredible Big Little Lies,” he said alongside his wife. “I’ve seen little bits and pieces of it already and it’s amazing. Amazing.” We can’t wait!

Back on April 5, Nicole took to Instagram to share the first glimpse of Meryl’s charater on set. “First day on the set with Meryl and ‘my’ darling boys! #BigLittleLies,” she captioned the adorable photo of herself and Meryl seemingly reading to her two on-screen sons beside a bed. Meryl will be playing Nicole’s mother-in-law, and they already look like family! Mary Louise Wright, the mother of character Perry Wright, comes around in the aftermath of her son Perry falling to his death in the finale of Season 1.

“[She’s] concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son’s death,” HBO explained. “Mary Louise arrives in Monterey searching for answers.” We can only assume that means that Mary Louise and Nicole’s character, Celeste Wright, will butt heads, especially since Perry was abusive to his wife, but they look pretty cozy in the first on set photo. This isn’t the first time that Nicole and Meryl will have worked together on-screen. They both starred in The Hours in 2002, so we know they’ll team up to do some great work.

The show and Meryl are a match made in heaven. Meryl is a three-time Oscar winner, and was nominated again for Steven Speilberg’s The Post this year, while Big Little Lies raked in eight Emmys and four Golden Globes. If Meryl were to win an Emmy for her work on the show, it would be her second. She won her first with HBO in 2003 for Angels In America.

HBO revealed that the new season will revolve around the “malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode… the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.” We can’t help but wonder if Mary Louise will be as vicious as her son — unfortunately, it sounds like we’ll have to wait until 2019 to find out.
