Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has incredible style but that doesn't mean she's allowed to wear whatever she wants now that she's a member of the British monarchy. According to a new report, Meghan, 36, has been banned from wearing pants on her next royal tour — and Prince Harry may be to blame.
The Daily Mail has revealed that Meghan reportedly wanted to wear a fashion-forward Stella McCartney tuxedo suit for one special event of her upcoming tour of Australia, but Harry — who is rumored to be his wife's "surprise stylist" — allegedly nixed the look.
"Meghan is being told she needs to stop dressing like a Hollywood star and start dressing like a royal. Meghan wanted to wear a tuxedo-style suit but Harry said it wasn’t traditional enough," a source confessed. "The style is said to be barely tolerated by royal aides, who want her to stick to the traditional demure skirts and opaque tights."
Since she became engaged to Harry in November 2017, Meghan has stepped out many times in pants at royal events. Some fans have even started to draw a parallel between Meghan's fashion sense and the late Princess Diana's iconic style. Diana herself rocked a menswear tuxedo on a few occasions, one of which was to a Genesis concert in Birmingham, England in February 1984.
However, Meghan's sister-in-law Kate Middleton very rarely wears pants unless she's at a casual event or playing sports. Instead, Duchess of Cambridge Kate always dons royal-appropriate dresses, tops, and skirts and takes far less fashion risks than Meghan.
The news of Meghan's inability to wear a tuxedo comes on the heels of a report that the Duchess still finds some royal rules "difficult to understand." A source revealed to People, "[She] has found certain rules in the royal household difficult to understand, like the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way. I think she finds it a little frustrating at times, but this is her new life, and she has to deal with it."
