John Legend, Certified Cool Dad, Won’t Be “Too Strict” With Daughter Luna’s Future Dating Life

He’s not just a regular dad — he’s a cool dad! John Legend opened up in a new interview about 16-month-old daughter Luna’s future dating life. According to the “All of Me” crooner, 38, he and wife Chrissy Teigen are going to be super chill when their little girl eventually grows up.

“I start off thinking about the type of person I want her to be,” John told People magazine. “If she’s the person she needs to be in life, she’ll attract the right kind of guys and she’ll make the right choices.”

The Grammy winner went on to say if he and Chrissy, 31, build up Luna’s self-esteem from an early age, the pair have no doubt that their daughter will seek out healthy romantic relationships down the road. “We’re going to just try to make her confident and smart and a good leader and kind and loving,” John explained. “And we feel like if we give her all the tools she needs, she’ll figure out the right person for her.”

And, as the singer explained, he hopes that Luna makes mistakes along the way so that she can learn from them. “I’m OK with her making mistakes, too, because that’s part of growing up,” the proud father-of-one said. “I feel like I’ll be patient, and I don’t feel like I’ll be too strict.”

Plus, John — a self-proclaimed feminist — wants Luna to know that she should never feel inhibited simply because she’s a girl. “I don’t like the idea of treating our girls differently than we treat our boys, saying ‘Boys, go out there and have as much sex as you want, do whatever you want’ and then our girls have to be locked in a convent,” he shared. “I don’t believe in that. I just want to equip her to make the best decisions.”
