James Garner's cause of death has been revealed a week-and-a-half after he passed on July 19 at the age of 86.

According to the actor's death certificate — which was obtained by TMZ — James died from acute myocardial infarction, or, as we know it, a massive heart attack. It was also revealed The Rockford Files star suffered from coronary artery disease before his passing.

Appearing in a string of high-profile films such as Victor/Victoria and Grand Prix, James first got his big break in the 1957 TV series, Maverick. Later in life, the likable Oklahoma native gained a new generation of fans with supporting roles in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules and 2004's The Notebook.
