Is Dr. Addison Montgomery coming back to Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital? As fans get excited for Season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy (which premieres on ABC Thursday, Sept. 28), they can’t help but wonder if Kate Walsh will reprise her iconic character. According to the 49-year-old actress, she isn’t so keen on the idea of making a comeback.

“People ask me that all the time, every day. And I don’t know. The answer is kind of, like, [Grey’s Anatomy creator] Shonda [Rhimes] and I love each other,” Kate said back in April during an interview with AOL’s BUILD Series. “I think if she ever asked me to work with her again or we did something like that, absolutely. You know?”

While the redheaded beauty — who starred in her own Grey’s spinoff, Private Practice, from 2007 to 2013 — would be willing to collaborate with Shonda, 47, in the future, she isn’t sold on doing something related to the beloved medical drama. “But we also feel like we explored Addison pretty thoroughly between Grey’s and Private Practice,” Kate continued. “So as much as there’s always that desire, like, ‘Bring her back!’ or, ‘Have her come back to this special episode,’ we feel like we put it to rest.”

Still, Kate — who appeared on Grey’s from seasons one through eight — can hardly believe the dedicated following that the show has amassed since it first premiered in 2005. “It’s super exciting. It’s crazy! It’s amazing. It’s such a shout-out to all the writers and actors and crew. It’s just an amazing accomplishment and such an anomaly in this culture where you have so much content and so many different things to watch,” she said. “It speaks so highly of the artistry that people are still tuning in and want to see more.”

Years after Kate left both Grey’s and Private Practice, she was forced to shift her focus from her acting career to her health. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, she revealed that she had a benign brain tumor the size of a lemon removed in 2015. Though she played a doctor on TV, Kate told the publication that she was still terrified of surgery.

“You’d think that after playing Dr. Addison for the better part of a decade, where I spent more time on a hospital set than at my house, that I would feel somehow more comfortable, but I was such a little scaredy-cat,” she admitted. “In the hospital, I felt like I might as well be six years old. My mother gave me rosary beads, my friend gave me a stuffed animal to go into surgery with… I played a real badass on TV, but when it comes to being a patient it’s such a vulnerable experience.”

Lucky for Grey’s fans, Kate recently reunited with her former co-star — and onscreen husband! — Patrick Dempsey in a new commercial for insurance company Cigna. “Kate’s fun, and her comic timing is amazing,” Patrick said of the cute get-together. “We were always playful on set anyway, and then we would get serious, but this was fun just to be playful and to make each other laugh.” So sweet!
