Derek Hough to Star in Upcoming NBC Musical 'Hairspray Live!' - Closer Weekly

Derek Hough has an exciting new gig!

According to E! News, the 30-year-old star has joined the cast of NBC’s upcoming live musical, Hairspray Live!. Derek will take on the role of Corny Collins, a character previously portrayed by James Marsden in the 2007 film Hairspray.

“Hands-down the best dancer on television and one of the best in the entertainment business, Derek Hough, will be perfect in the role of Corny Collins, the cocky song-and-dance-man who hosts the TV show every teenager in Baltimore wants to be on,” NBC said in a statement of Derek’s character.

Earlier this week, the network similarly announced Martin Short (Wilbur Turnblad), Harvey Fierstein (Edna Turnblad) and Jennifer Hudson (Motormouth Maybelle) have all joined the cast of the upcoming production.

Hairspray Live! is set to air on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
