While the Academy Awards struggled to find a host in time for their telecast, it also seems like they’re having a tough time convincing Cameron Diaz to make an appearance, because she’s not showing up at this year’s ceremony.

“This year the Oscars are really focused on bringing in some people to present that will shock the audience,” an insider exclusively tells Closer Weekly, “and Cameron was on the top of their list because it’s been so long since she’s appeared at one of these functions and she’s such a stunner on the red carpet.” The source adds, “She’s also starred alongside Glenn [Close, a 2019 Oscar nominee for Best Actress.] But nobody is going to convince Cameron to make a public appearance just for the sake of a ‘stunt,’ and she has zero interest in walking a red carpet and answering questions about her ‘hiatus’ or her long time away from acting.”

The 46-year-old retired from acting after starring in Annie in 2014, and ever since then the Charlie’s Angels star has stayed away from Tinseltown for the most part. These days, Cameron seems to be focusing on her marriage to musician Benji Madden, who she has been married to since 2015. On her most recent birthday, the Good Charlotte band member had quite the romantic message on Instagram for his wife.

“Thank you for being the best friend and partner to me and taking this journey of marriage,” Benji said at the time. “The way you live your life every day, and your compassion for the world shines thru in your eyes and you inspire me to want to be the best man I can be in this lifetime. You’re the realest. I’m so grateful to be yours Always & Forever, and to call you my One&Only. True Love.”

That said, it will be interesting to see if any surprise or shocking appearances are made when the Oscars air on February 24, 2019.
