Angelina Jolie Has a Strong Feeling Her Son Maddox, 16, Will Follow in Her Hollywood Footsteps

He’s got star power! Angelina Jolie opened up in a new interview about her 16-year-old son, Maddox, and his potential career in showbiz. According to the A-list actress, 42, the teen — who recently assisted his mom in the making of her new Netflix film, First They Killed My Father — has a knack for filmmaking. “Maddox worked hard. It’s up to him,” Angelina told E! News’ Zuri Hall at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival premiere for the movie. “This [film] is very important to him, but I think so.”

Angelina adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002 from an orphanage in Battambang. First They Killed My Father is based off of Loung Ung’s memoir of the same name, detailing the author’s survival of the Cambodian genocide, which occurred from 1974 to 1979. Angelina believes that Maddox was able to learn more about his roots through his work on the film. “It was a way for him to walk in the steps that most likely his birth parents walked,” she recently told Vanity Fair.

During her chat with E!, Angelina said that she would also like to see her five other kids, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and nine-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne — whom she shares with estranged husband Brad Pitt — become involved in the magic of movies one day. “I might dream,” she added, “if I am to continue to be in this business I’d love to work with my children if they choose to be in this business.”

The Academy Award winner and UNHCR Special Envoy has also encouraged her children to participate in her philanthropy work. “My daughter [Shiloh] has gone to refugee camps,” she continued. “Whenever I go on humanitarian trips, they want to go with me. I never force them. I want them to respect people of diversity.”

First They Killed My Father is in theaters and streaming on Netflix Friday, Sept. 15. To see how Brangelina’s children have changed over the years, click through the gallery below!
