In an exclusive new interview with Closer Weekly, the two gentlemen who witnessed Alan Thicke‘s fatal heart attack at Pickwick Gardens hockey rink confessed they thought the actor was “going to be ok” before he sadly passed away on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 13.
“We were here playing hockey and Alan was out on the ice and he started to feel queasy… and [after the] paramedics came and took him away, we were just talking [and said] we thought it was going to be fine,” Mark Decarlo told Closer.

“By the time the paramedics got here he seemed [to be] actually doing a lot better,” Sean Branney said. “We all had the impression that he was going to be — I mean, it wasn’t pleasant what he was going through — but we thought he was going to be ok.”
Alan and his 19-year-old son, Carter Thicke, were playing their weekly pick-up hockey game at the Burbank, CA rink when the Growing Pains star suddenly fell ill. He was pronounced dead at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center later that day.
“He was conscious and never passed out as far as I know. After a brief period of distress, he was talking. When the paramedics got here he was talking with them [and] responding,” Branney continued.
“That’s why we’re all shocked today because we thought he was… we thought something happened to him but he was going to be ok,” Decarlo told Closer.
