Year after year, we tune into the Oscars broadcast to see which actors and actresses will take home the night’s most coveted awards. And yet, Hollywood is still filled with lots of super famous and beloved stars who’ve never won an Academy Award — or even been nominated!
During his more than 40-year career — which spans both TV and film — John has played a range of memorable characters in films like The Big Lebowski and 10 Cloverfield Lane. But for whatever reason, the Academy continues to snub him.
He might get a bad rap for being a “rom-com actor,” but Richard has given a slew of award-worthy performances, from An Officer and a Gentleman to Chicago. Why the Academy continues to ignore him is a mystery.
Sure the actor began his career in rom-coms and action movies, but in the ’90s he started appearing in meatier roles in Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, The Sixth Sense and Moonrise Kingdom — but he’s still never been nominated for an Oscar.
You would think he would have racked up nominations for Say Anything, Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity, or something! But nope, the actor has only been nominated for a Golden Globe, SAG Award and BAFTA.
“What? But he’s in everything!” is what you’re probably thinking right now. But despite appearing in films like Trainspotting and Moulin Rouge, the Scottish actor continues to be ignored by the Academy.
Sure, he’s appeared in enough movies to have a game named after him (“Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”), but the actor has never been nominated for an Academy Award despite appearing in award-worthy hits like Apollo 13 and Mystic River. These days, he’s instead collecting Emmy nominations for his TV work.
As the daughter of cinema legend Ingrid Bergman (who won three Oscars), you would think Isabella would have at least a nomination by now, especially for her iconic roles in Blue Velvet and Death Becomes Her, but perhaps the Academy is still waiting on the right performance from her.
The Academy voters usually love posh British actors (hello, Judi Dench), so it’s odd that Great Britain’s biggest import has exactly zero Oscar nominations. Critics recently predicted he would get a nod for his performance in 2016’s Florence Foster Jenkins, but he was snubbed yet again.
