Before her return to her co-hosting duties, Savannah opened up about what maternity leave is really like for new moms, how she and her husband decided on their daughter's name and how motherhood has changed her for the better!
"Even though being a mom is the most challenging thing I've ever tried to do, I've never felt more exhilarated and relaxed and peaceful and joyous," she told 'TODAY' of new motherhood. "Even on those nights when she's waking up every couple of hours. I just feel thankful."

The former White House correspondent also noted she was completely surprised at how easy it was for her to "check out" of her work life and instead be completely consumed with caring for her newborn daughter. "I've loved it so much," she said of their time at home together.
Before welcoming Vale in August, Savannah said she and Mike were convinced they were expecting a baby boy, but still "had an array of girl names" to choose from when their daughter was born.

"We had a few names but they didn't seem like her. And Vale was a name I'd always loved. I'd heard it years ago. My close friend's sister-in-law is named Vale. And Mike liked the name too. There was just something about it that fit her," she said of choosing the name.
As for how motherhood has changed her, Savannah says she's loved finding her "newfound patience" and sense of calmness and even hopes to bring those new traits back to work with her on 'TODAY.'
