Ed Gross
Closer Weekly Film/TV Editor Ed Gross always knew he wanted to be a writer — even from the time he was a wee lad growing up in Brooklyn — but couldn’t have imagined a lifelong obsession with pop culture leading to a career in entertainment journalism. Imagine loving classic TV (which, sadly, was new at the time), Superman, The Beatles, James Bond, movies and television in general, and being able to speak to the people behind them all and write about it. And then imagine waking up every day excited to get to work. Consider his mind boggled on a daily basis.
Work or writing background leading to expertise
Conducting interviews with celebrities and behind-the-scenes talent is second nature to Ed Gross, who has done literally thousands of them over the course of his career. Nearly 20 years ago, he joined the staff of Life Story, Movie Magic and Film Fantasy magazines as executive editor, from which he shifted to the digital world as Executive Editor, Us for empireonline.com, and then, Film/TV Editor at Closer Weekly, his current position.
In addition to covering movies and television for the brand, he serves as host of the interview-centric Closer Weekly “Classic TV & Film” podcast, celebrating the golden age of television and movies then and now, on a weekly basis.
Education
He was a communications (journalism emphasis) major at Hofstra University, where he served as editor-in-chief of one of the school’s newspapers, The New Voice.
Work history
Ed Gross has served on the editorial staff of a number of magazines, among them Cinescape, Starlog, Comics Scene, Life Story, SFX, Cinefantastique, Film Fantasy, Fangoria, Movie Magic, RetroVision, Not of This Earth, Sci-Fi Now and Geek. Additionally, he has written or co-written numerous non-fiction pop culture books, including Rocky: The Ultimate Guide, Planet of the Apes Revisited and Spider-Man: Confidential, as well as recent oral history books devoted to Star Trek (the two-volume The Fifty-Year Mission), Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel (Slayers & Vampires), Battlestar Galactica (So Say We All) and James Bond (the forthcoming Nobody Does It Better).
