Will Estes 'Never Expected' Blue Bloods to Last 14 Years
“New York Minute” – Danny and Baez scrutinize an art gallery suspected of selling counterfeit pieces after a detective investigating the establishment is murdered. Also, Eddie is conflicted when she discovers her former partner turned social worker, Rachel Witten (Lauren Patten), crossed the line to get a mentally ill client much needed help; and Frank is upset when an award Danny was to be honored with is rescinded by Grace Edwards (Lori Loughlin), the widow of an NYPD officer killed in the line of duty, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Nov. 8 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). Will Estes, who has portrayed Jamie Reagan on Blue Bloods for 14 seasons, reflected on the show’s end after a historic run on CBS.

During the Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy special on CBS on November 29, Will, 46, explained that he never expected the series to go on for 14 seasons.

“It felt good from the beginning. It felt like we were doing something good, but you never really expect 14 years out of a show,” he admitted during the episode. “I think that would be an arrogant expectation.”

His character has had quite the dramatic storyline in the show’s final season, which looks like it will come to a head in the series finale on December 13. In photos released by CBS ahead of the episode, it appears that Jamie is sitting in a hospital waiting room with Joe Hill. Jamie’s wife, Eddie Janko-Reagan, is wearing a hospital gown and sitting in a wheelchair as Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, comforts her.

Jamie got a citation in season 14 episode 16 after covering for Luis Badillo after he was caught smoking weed. Vanessa Ray, who plays Eddie, hinted that something big is coming for her and Jamie in the show’s final two episodes.

“When I look at these scripts, at this point because we know these people so well, I think that it’s a little bit of, I’m just going to soak up as much of the relationships as possible, what’s happening — because the story is the story, but what’s happening with them emotionally, and I think Eddie and Jamie are, I mean, they’re such soulmates, you know what I mean? These two are just meant to be together,” she told TV Insider in an interview on November 22.

“They’re total opposites and they come from different worlds and they’re all of these things, but they are forever a team and they’re forever going to be supportive of one another,” Vanessa, 43, added. “So, I think that the audience is going to get to see some of that put to the test. I don’t think people are really ready for what’s going to happen in the next two episodes. Everything is happening. It’s all happening all at once.”

She also spoke about how Eddie and Jamie’s relationship has progressed through the seasons and gained a massive fanbase.

“I think it’s like mad chemistry,” she reflected. “I think it’s fun to watch two characters with a lot of love and respect for one another but who don’t always see eye to eye. It would be pretty boring if they always just got each other, they always agreed and they always saw things the same way. But I think that what has honestly has been interesting and challenging to play is neither one of them, once they got together, changed their position on anything.”

“She still thought of him as a boy scout and he still kind of thought of her as a maverick,” Vanessa added. “And I think seeing them have to pick their battles a lot with one another and not always doing that perfectly. I hope the audience has appreciated seeing that sort of those real challenges that they face where it’s like they love each other and they respect each other so much, but it’s not always easy.”
