Fans of the sci-fi drama The X-Files were in for a special treat on October 12 when the show’s leads Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny reunited for a panel discussion celebrating the series’ premiere 20 years ago.

Anderson and Duchovny, who played FBI agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder on the long-running drama, talked to fans at The Paley Center for Media in NYC about the series premiere, the two feature films that followed, and whether or not they were game for a third movie.

“Gillian and I want to do it, so it’s really up to Twentieth Century Fox at this point,” Duchovny shared of shooting a third film, though the two seemed to be a bit confused about where their characters left off.

“Well they were married the last movie,” Duchovny said of Scully and Mulder in 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

“Were we actually married?” Anderson asked.

“I believe so. That was my impression,” answered Duchovny. You mean you really didn’t talk about this before filming, guys!

According to series creator Chris Carter, “all the principals are on board” for another film. So does that mean we’ll finally figure out if these two are husband and wife?! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
