The Residence, Netflix’s new White House murder mystery from Shonda Rhimes, has been a hit with fans since it premiered on March 20, 2025. While season 1’s storyline was left with no loose ends, viewers are wondering if Cordelia Cupp might be back to solve another mystery in season 2.

Is ‘The Residence’ Getting a Season 2?

While there hasn’t been any official announcements for The Residence season 2, it’s definitely something series creator Paul William Davies would be on board with doing, especially if Uzo Aduba and Randall Park returned in the roles of Cordelia and FBI Agent Edwin Park.

“I really love Cordelia Cupp; I really enjoyed coming up with her and writing her. Uzo is amazing,” Paul said during an interview with Deadline that was tied with the show’s launch. “I love the relationship between Cordelia and Edwin. There are lots more stories to tell about her adventures and him with her. We’ll see how people feel about the show but I certainly would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought a lot about it, and didn’t have a lot of ideas about where it could go.”

However, Paul added that any new seasons wouldn’t likely be set in the White House and, instead, could go to another residence.

Uzo Aduba and Randall Park Are Open to More Seasons of ‘The Residence’

Paul isn’t the only member of the cast and crew that would be excited if The Residence was renewed for season 2. Both Uzo and Randall gushed about their roles in season 1.

“We talk about that all the time, we would love it, in part because we had such a great time in the actual making of this show,” Randall explained during an interview with the outlet. “But also, the characters’ dynamic is just so fun to play, and Paul is so singular in his writing style and in the way he approaches these mysteries that the opportunity to maybe travel to another country and solve another case would be pretty amazing.”

Uzo chimed in and added that she “loved” playing the eccentric detective and she’s “sure that the adventures and the cases will never stop.”

“There’s always going to be something in the world to solve,” Uzo added. “She has found an amazing partner and friend in Edwin Park, and I wish nothing more for them to continue solving, exploring and journeying around the world.”

How Did ‘The Residence’ Season 1 End?

In season 1, fans saw Cordelia working to solve the murder of Chief Usher A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito) inside the White House the night of the state dinner with Australian diplomats. Cordelia marched to the beat of her own drum as she interviewed guests, gathered clues and did a little bird watching on the White House lawn.

Weeks after the murder, and after Cordelia had stepped away from the case, it was all the public could talk about, and she was called back in to try and solve it once more. After walking through the White House and gathering clues, she pulled the remaining suspects into a room and revealed the killer and the motive.

In the end, it all came down to White House Social Secretary Lilly Schumacher (Molly Griggs). A.B. had threatened to reveal that Lilly had stolen and misappropriated money. In return, she bashed him over the head with a clock and used a page from his journal to make it look like A.B. had committed suicide.
