Selma Blair Reveals Cameron Diaz Has Retired From Acting — Then Backtracks on Her Comments

So, is she or isn’t she? Cameron Diaz has been noticeably absent from the Hollywood spotlight for months, leading many fans to wonder if she has officially retired from acting. Interestingly, Cam’s friend Selma Blair seemed to shed some light on the actress’ current work situation during a new interview — but then quickly retracted her comments just hours later.

While speaking to Metro News UK on Sunday, March 11, Selma, 45, said Cameron, also 45, has chosen to step away from acting to instead focus on starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. “I had lunch with Cameron the other day. We were reminiscing about [our 2002 film The Sweetest Thing]. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron’s retired from acting. She’s like, ‘I’m done,'” Selma shared.

“I mean, she doesn’t need to make any more films. She has a pretty great life, I don’t know what it would take to bring her back. She’s happy,” she continued. Just hours later, however, Selma took to Twitter to confirm she was “joking” about Cameron’s retirement. “Breaking News: Guys please, I was making a joke in an interview. Cameron Diaz is NOT retiring from ANYTHING. And for more breaking news: I am now retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson,” she wrote on Monday, March 12.

Cameron’s last on-screen acting credit was 2014’s Annie in which she played Miss Hannigan. That same year, she starred alongside Jason Segel and Rob Lowe in the comedy Sex Tape and appeared with Leslie Mann in The Other Woman. Since then, Cam has been keeping a relatively low profile and has reportedly rejected recent movie offers.

“Cameron is constantly inundated with film scripts trying to tempt her out of retirement but she’s just not interested. She’s happy, in love and wants to make the most of her freedom and free time,” a source close to the star told the UK’s Daily Star Sunday newspaper.

Another insider previously told Us Weekly that “Cameron hasn’t wanted to work” and is ready to have a baby with Benji. “She is enjoying being at home and being a housewife. She would love more than anything to be a mom. At this point, they would be very happy with the miracle of one child. They aren’t really thinking past the first one at this point. They would love to have the chance to be parents,” the source said.

Thankfully, Cameron’s baby dreams are now coming true! In Touch recently revealed that Cam is pregnant with her first child and couldn’t be happier. “Cameron’s struggles to conceive haven’t been easy. There were some really tough times when she thought motherhood maybe just wasn’t in the cards for her, but she never gave up hope that someday she would become a mom,” a source confessed. “Cameron finally has reason to celebrate! The IVF worked — she’s pregnant. They have a baby on the way, and they couldn’t be happier. [They’re] sharing the news with friends and family and getting the nursery ready.”
