Reality is starting to set in for Matt Lauer. Five months after his termination from the Today Show amid sexual misconduct allegations, the disgraced journalist has finally moved out of his family’s Hamptons home. Matt shared the $35 million estate with wife Annette Roque and their three kids — until now.

“Getting him to move out was quite daunting because Matt was refusing to leave,” an insider told Us Weekly. “It was all about Matt, who expressed concern about how it would look to the media in the wake of being fired by NBC. Annette was simply at a loss for words because she had hoped that he would recognize this was best for her and the kids.”

Matt was fired in November after a woman accused Matt of inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace. At the time, Matt released a statement apologizing and denying the allegations. “There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions,” he said. “To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC. Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.”

Shortly after, In Touch reported that Annette was gearing up for a multi-million dollar divorce. “Seeing her family and friends convinced her she was better off without him,” the insider said. “After all she’s been through, the nights of crying herself to sleep and trying to divorce him years ago, it was still one of the hardest things she’s ever done.”

And unlike her decision to back out of her 2006 divorce filing, where she accused Matt of “cruel and inhumane” behavior, she is not changing her mind this time around. “It’s like a huge weight was finally lifted off her shoulders,” the source added.
