What Show Is Replacing ‘Blue Bloods’ in the CBS Lineup After Cancellation? Schedule Revealed

CBS is already one step ahead when it comes to stacking their 2025 TV lineup. With Blue Bloods leaving the Friday night time slot in December 2024, the network announced what show would be replacing it.

‘Blue Bloods’ Is Ending After Season 14

The end is officially near for Blue Bloods after 14 seasons of unforgettable action-packed episodes, Reagan family dinners and popular characters.

“I think we’re all a little disappointed,” cast member Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, told People in September 2024 of the show’s cancellation. “We’ve had such a good time. We all want to be there. It’s a real loss.”

While it was initially believed that a spinoff was in the cards for some of the characters, CBS has not officially announced any continuation of Blue Bloods.

“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs,” Donnie Wahlberg told TV Insider in October 2024 of a potential spinoff. “I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and done with the care that we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way.”

“I’ve heard stories of prequels, sequels, you name it,” he continued. “For me personally, I love the show. I’ve enjoyed working on it for 14 years and like I said, whatever comes next, as long as it has family at its core and the spirit of Blue Bloods, then I’m all for it.”

What Show Is Replacing ‘Blue Bloods’ in the CBS Lineup?

In a press release, CBS announced that network favorite S.W.A.T. would be taking over Blue Bloods’ Friday, 10 p.m. time slot starting in the final week of January 2025. It was also announced that NCIS: Sydney would also be returning for a second season that same month.

What Is ‘S.W.A.T.’ About?

Similar to Blue Bloods, S.W.A.T. is a police procedural drama in its eighth season on CBS. It stars Shemar Moore as Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr., an LAPD officer who leads the Special Weapons and Tactics unit.

S.W.A.T. has had quite a unique journey on the network, as it has been canceled and uncanceled twice before.

“To get canceled twice in a row and to get uncanceled twice in a row, I give kudos to me running my mouth on social media,” Shemar told People in November 2024. “Nothing lasts forever, but I fight.”

As for how long he thinks the show will last, he had a witty answer.

“Everybody at S.W.A.T. wants season 13. And I’m like, ‘You’ve got to talk to my knees, boy. It ain’t no joke,’” he said. “Hey, I’m 54. It ain’t like it was. It’s harder and harder running around, jumping over cars and playing tough guy and trying to keep that six-pack together.”

When the show was renewed for season 8, the Criminal Minds alum was ecstatic.

“I partied like a rock star,” he said. “Doors closing and then kicking down doors is a very scary, fun thing. And that’s how I live life.”
