Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy was quite an intense one for one of its doctors Alex Karev (portrayed by Justin Chambers). And to be honest, his storyline has us super excited for Season 14 of the show, which airs on Thursday, Sept. 28!

In the Season 12 finale of Grey’s, Alex walks in on his drunk girlfriend Jo Wilson (played by Camilla Luddington) spilling out her life to Andrew DeLuca (played by Giacomo Gianniotti) and gets the totally wrong idea (she was telling him about her abusive ex-husband, her fake name, and more). Alex couldn’t contain his anger and proceeded to beat up DeLuca until he was taken to the hospital. That said, fans are dying to know what happens to Alex Karev in Season 13!

At the start of Season 13, we saw Alex trying to confide his secret in Meredith (played by Ellen Pompeo) while the doctors rushed to take care of DeLuca. To no surprise, Meredith was disappointed in Alex and feeling uneasy about hiding the fact that she knows he was the one who beat up DeLuca.

Alex was soon charged with felony assault and Dr. Miranda Bailey (portrayed by Chandra Wilson) was faced with the tough decision to remove Alex from all his surgeries and demote him to the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic, where he stayed for many of the season’s early episodes. Meanwhile, tensions were high between Jo and Alex, so she again confided in DeLuca since they were the victims of the situation. It even became clear that DeLuca began to develop feelings for Jo…

Alex soon visited the courthouse to get his trial date set while DeLuca began to heal and head back to work. As the trial approached, Jo became nervous about a subpoena and decided to tell Alex all about her secret marriage ultimately so he would decide to take the plea and just go to jail for two years. And then we had to wait two months before the winter premiere…

When the show returned, it was the day before Alex’s trial. After an off-site case, Dr. Arizona Robbins (portrayed by Jessica Capshaw) and Miranda tell Jo that Alex is taking a plea deal which causes her to get sick. In the next episode, Mer found out that Alex’s trial was indefinitely postponed, and she assumed he took the plea and was in jail. However, when she gets home from work, she just finds him sleeping in her bed.

So it turned out, DeLuca dropped the charges (it was that or he’d give a fake testimony), and when Alex confronted him about why, he claimed it was only because Jo had been through enough. Subsequently, Alex got his job back at the hospital and the two eventually made up.

Towards the end of the season, Alex hired a private investigator to find Jo’s ex-husband, Paul Sadler. Even though he tracked him down and attended a conference that he was at, he thought smart and walked away from the situation. So, Alex’s story is pretty much open for Season 14. Will he and Jo get back together? Will he meet a new doctor? We’ll have to wait (but not much longer) and see!
