Nope, we’re still not over it. We lost Dr. Mark Sloan (portrayed by actor Eric Dane) during Season 9 of Grey’s Anatomy, and with the Season 14 premiere right around the corner, we’re still wishing he’d somehow return to the popular show. However, since he died from a tragic plane crash, we don’t see that happening anytime soon.

If you remember from the Season 8 finale, Mark, Meredith, Derek, Arizona, Christina, and Lexie were involved in a plane crash that nearly killed them all. However, Meredith’s younger half-sister Lexie died from the terrible accident, and at the time she was dating Mark, which made it that much more emotional. Right before her death, we saw Mark hold her hand and plead his love to her. So deep.

When the show returned with the Season 9 premiere, we saw Mark laying in a hospital bed in a coma due to the injuries he suffered in the plane crash, and it was said that they would pull the plug on the machines if he didn’t wake within 30 days (he was in the woods after the crash trying to survive with the others for days). However, he sadly never woke up, and he soon died with Derek (his best friend) and Callie (his other best friend and mother to their daughter, Sofia) at his bedside. It was arguably one of the saddest moments in Grey’s history.

In the following episode, it was revealed that Mark had a “surge” and woke up from the coma for a bit. During that time, he was able to give Dr. Jackson Avery (a fellow plastic surgeon) advice and all of the other doctors were convinced he was going to live.

After his passing, the Seattle Grace Mercy West hospital was renamed Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to pay tribute to Lexie and Mark. They will both forever be missed on the hit medical drama.
