No matter what happened between them, she still paid her respects after his death.

“IVE TRIED…WORDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE GUI GUI. FOREVER, CHOOCH,” she tweeted shortly after his death, using their pet names they used to call each other. She also shared an adorable throwback photo of the couple locked in a sweet embrace.

They were only married for four years.

Since their relationship was relatively short, it’s understandable that fans just forgot that they were together. Cher married Gregg on February 16, 1975 — just four days after her divorce from her first husband and musical partner, Sonny Bono, was finalized.

They experienced problems in their relationship.

Just nine days after they tied the knot, Cher filed for divorce from Gregg and cited his heroin and alcohol abuse as her reason. But one month later, she took him back after he got clean, Us Weekly reported.

They had a son together before their split.

In 1976 Cher and her ex-husband Sonny reunited for their TV show The Sonny and Cher Show and Gregg filed for divorce but they called it off after Cher found out that she was pregnant with their son, Elijah Blue Allman. They split for good in 1977, shortly after releasing a duet album together titled Two the Hard Way.

Cher blamed their failed relationship on Gregg’s drug and alcohol abuse.

She opened up about their marriage in a 1978 interview with People, where she admitted that, “nobody ever made me feel as happy as Gregory did.”

“God, he’s wonderful,” she continued. “I don’t understand why he can’t see it. He’s the kindest, most gentle, loving husband and father. But then he forgets and everything goes to sh–.”
