You Go, Girl! Tracee Ellis Ross Reveals She’s ‘Happily Single’ At Age 45 With No Children
At age 45, Tracee Ellis Ross wouldn’t change her life for anything! In a new interview with InStyle Magazine, the Blackish actress says that for the first time in her life she’s “happily single” — and she’s “not at home crying about it.”
“It’s sort of fascinating to be 45, and single, and childless,” Tracee said before revealing how much people have scrutinized her life decisions. Since she never married, Tracee is constantly being judged by the media. “These are very big and very personal questions that aren’t anyone’s business but that somehow, like the right to choose, become fodder for public conversation.”
As an A-list actress and the daughter of legendary singer Diana Ross, Tracee felt pressured by society to start a family at a certain age. But she admitted that not having the traditional husband, two kids, and a picket fence has made her go after what she truly wants in life. “Some of the ability to reflect on what I really want comes from pushing up against a society that shames me for not having the expected trappings,” she explained.
On-screen, Tracee can normally be seen playing a loving mother who always provides the audience with excellent parenting advice. In real life, however, Tracee has come to love her life as a party of one. “I’m very pleased with my existence these days. Have I had to learn to make friends with loneliness? Yes. I think if I were in a relationship, it would be the same,” she shared.
“My life is mine. Those words stopped me in my tracks, and honestly brought so many tears to my eyes,” Tracee previously said at the Glamour Magazine 2017 Women of the Year Summit event. “Seems so obvious, but obviously it wasn’t. Because I have not been living my life as if it was my own… I have to really live it for myself. I have to put myself first and not be looking for permission to do so.”
