Meet Tom Selleck’s Daughter: Get to Know Accomplished Equestrian Hannah Selleck

Tom Selleck, known for his work in television shows such as Magnum, P.I. and Blue Bloods, is a proud dad to two children.

During his first marriage to model Jacqueline Ray, Tom adopted her son, Kevin, who was born in 1966. After Tom and Jacqueline divorced in 1982, he married current wife Jillie Joan Mack on August 7, 1987, and the two welcomed daughter Hannah the following year.

Tom and Jillie welcomed Hannah Margaret Selleck on December 16, 1988, and raised their daughter on their California ranch, where she fell in love with riding horses.

Jillie told People in 2012, “We both thought it was the best environment for her to grow up.”

Though Hannah is a grown adult, Tom — whose Blue Bloods character, Frank Reagan, is also a dad — admitted that he will never stop parenting his children. “You never stop being a dad even though your kids are grown,” he said in a September 2018 interview with Parade. “There aren’t a lot of good, strong, examples of patriarchs trying to do the right thing on television. So, I think that performs a certain function; fathers are important.”

He’s also said that he really enjoys the time he spends with his family outside of the spotlight. “I’m a fairly private person,” he told People in 2020. “And I’ve always treasured the balance between work and time with my family. It’s always about them.”

Where Did Tom Selleck’s Daughter Hannah Go to School?

Hannah graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies.

In a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hannah explained that she decided to attend a university that was close to home so that she could continue training as an equestrian.

“Even when I went to college, I decided to stay close so I could stay with the trainer I was with, so I went to Loyola Marymount University,” she said. “I would go ride five or six times a week still, and from Marina del Rey to the farm was about an hour and a half. I was always juggling it even through college.”

She also revealed that she tried to pursue a career in PR and communications after college, but she ultimately was “miserable.” She explained, “When I finished college, I thought I might want a career that would support me to ride at a high level as an amateur. I got a job at a public relations firm — as an internship — and I worked there for a bit, maybe six months, in Beverly Hills. That was the first time that I had been away from the horses, and I was miserable. I was only able to ride on the weekends, and that was a huge shock. After that, I realized I have to do the horses, so I quit the PR job.”

What Does Tom Selleck’s Daughter Hannah Do?

Hannah got into horse riding at a very young age and started training at Foxfield Riding School in Westlake Village, California, an acclaimed equestrian academy.

“Because [my parents are] both artists, they believe in the idea that you have to be very passionate about what you do to be successful. They encouraged me to be passionate about it and immersed in it, and from there it was kind of on me how much I wanted it,” she previously told Equestrian Living. “They always let me take the lead. If I wanted to move barns or trainers, that was my decision.”

In 2018, Hannah broke her tibia and fibula in a riding accident. “I worked with an energy healer and we worked on a lot of guided meditations and visualizations,” she told Modern Luxury Palm Beach in January 2022. “My visualization was imagining myself and my horse in a protective white light, and that we were protected over the jumps, the whole course. The next competition, I remember thinking, ‘I don’t know if this is going to work, but we’ll give it a try.’ We went in and that fear started to come up; I could feel it. I just closed my eyes for a minute and envisioned this white light and rode really well.”

Hannah started Descanso Farms, a training and sales operation where high-caliber show horses are raised, in 2010.
