“Fire Drill” – Jamie partners with the FDNY to find the arsonist responsible for a massive fire at an NYPD evidence storage facility. Also, Danny and Baez feel the ripples of the storage facility fire when all the evidence against a cartel leader Danny brought to justice is destroyed; Anthony asks Erin to let him lead on a murder case when his friend is killed; and Eddie asks Frank to put her on modified duty following her divisive arrest of an anti-cop protestor at a rally, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, May 5 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. Tom Selleck’s 80th birthday is just days away, and the TV icon doesn’t plan on stepping back from his work any time soon despite ending Blue Bloods.

“He already misses the Blue Bloods cast and crew,” an insider exclusively tells Closer of Tom’s interest in keeping the franchise going. “He would definitely do a spinoff and TV movie.”

Blue Bloods aired its final episode on December 13, 2024, with Tom’s character, Frank Reagan, learning that he was going to become a grandpa again after Jamie Reagan and Eddie Janko-Reagan announced they were expecting their first child together.

After the series finale aired, Tom, 79, admitted that it was difficult to say goodbye to the show, in which he starred for 14 seasons.

“The hardest thing I would say at this point [is] right now, this time of year, I would be shooting episodes of Blue Bloods, and I miss that,” the Emmy winner told Entertainment Weekly on December 14, 2024. “The thing that tugged at me most in adjusting and will continue is the family of actors we had and the friendships we formed. And you always say it’s kind of like high school graduation. Everybody says they’ll keep in touch and things happen. Well, that happens in movies too. You say you do a movie, establish relationships and then it’s over.”

“Forgive Us Our Trespasses” – Danny and Baez team up with Danny’s old partner, Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito), to find a copycat killer emulating murders from a previous case. Also, Frank and Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) battle over how best to handle the city’s rising homeless population; and Jamie, Eddie and Erin team up to build evidence against a previously released man who they believe is again committing criminal assault, on the 13th season finale of BLUE BLOODS, Friday, May 19 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. Tom built a great rapport with his costars both onscreen and off, making it all the more difficult to accept that Blue Bloods is officially over.

“This is a more complicated one,” he said of the show ending. “It’s a 15-year relationship with most of those people, and it just doesn’t go away that fast. It’s hard — on a movie, you always say, ‘Well, let’s get together,’ and then you get busy or you work somewhere else and a couple of years go by, but this is just a bigger adjustment.”

An official spinoff of the police procedural drama has yet to be announced, but there have been several cast members who have expressed interest in keeping Blue Bloods alive.

A source previously told Closer in December 2024 that Tom was hoping that CBS would present him with a new show to work on in the meantime.

“The good news is that they’re very receptive to the idea and, as a network, CBS specializes in programming to the older demographic that has followed Tom since his Magnum P.I. days,” the insider told Closer at the time.

The source reiterated that Tom is not looking to retire but is instead searching for his next opportunity.

“The only reason Blue Bloods is going away is because, overall, the show had become quite expensive, with a lot of cast and producers that need to be paid,” the source added. “Putting Tom in a show with a smaller ensemble makes more business sense and make no mistake, Tom wants to keep making TV shows into his 80s and he absolutely hates the idea of retiring any time soon!”
