It’s been a whole year since Matt Lauer’s shocking firing from the Today show over sexual misconduct allegations. And at the annual Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 28, Matt’s former co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin didn’t seem to miss the disgraced 60-year-old star one bit.

An eyewitness at the event exclusively told Closer Weekly that things “seemed business as usual” during the ceremony, you “would never know they were missing Matt,” and the Today stars’ “spirits were high.” The source added that Hoda, 54, was spotted “smiling and laughing” and chatting with excited fans throughout the night while Al, 64, was “equally as jolly” and greeted people attending the event with a smile.

While Savannah, Hoda, Al, and Craig seem to be moving on from Matt’s firing just fine, the former Today anchor is reportedly now working on his TV comeback. According to a recent In Touch Weekly report, Matt “wants to host an investigative talk show, and he’s hoping HBO will give him a shot.” And Matt’s longtime friend Bryant Gumbel is reportedly trying his best to help him out. “But he’s the first to admit that his pal has an uphill battle ahead of him,” the source added. “Matt also knows he has to pay his dues. He’s pretty much begging for a second chance.”

One person who is seemingly not helping Matt with his return to television is Savannah, who recently admitted she has not seen her former co-anchor once since his firing last November. “I always try to keep in touch on text. He’s really focused on his kids and his family. All of it has been an adjustment. Everybody knows how sad and sorry and shocked I was about everything that happened, and now I hope everyone knows how grateful I am to Hoda Kotb as a partner now,” she told People earlier this fall.
