Pop icon Tina Turner has been through a lot in her lifetime.

The 77-year-old singer was, unfortunately, a victim of an abusive marriage to her first husband, Ike Turner, from 1962 until 1978. But today, Tina is in the best place she could be! “After all the chaos, she’s made the life she’s always dreamed of,” a friend tells Closer Weekly exclusively.

Tina previously met Ike — who passed away in 2007 from a cocaine overdose – at a nightclub in her hometown in Tennesse. The two began recording together when she was 19 years old, and are known for the hit “River Deep, Mountain High.” However, their touring days weren’t all that collaborative.

“Ike called the shots,” Robbie Montgomery, a backup singer who was “close as sisters” to Tina, tells Closer.

After unfortunately suffering from beatings, Tina finally left Ike in 1976. “He can have everything except my name,” she bravely said during their bitter divorce 40 years ago.

Since that difficult time, Tina has let go of her anger about the situation but revealed she hasn’t forgotten about the pain she sadly endured back then. Now, the star’s life is being made into a stage production Tina — The Musical next year by director Phyllida Loyd!

“To have my story nurtured by such an amazing creative team is thrilling,” Tina said of the upcoming show.

In 2013, Tina married German record executive Erwin Bach. On top of her fairly new marriage, the “What’s Love Got to Do With It” singer is also working on her relationships with her two sons, Raymond, 58, and Ronnie, 56, whom she welcomed with Ike.
