This is awkward. Meghan Markle‘s father, Thomas Markle, has been unable to keep his mouth shut in recent months, and during a new interview with The Mail on Sunday, he revealed he initially lied to his son-in-law, Prince Harry, about staging paparazzi photos prior to the royal wedding on May 19.

Before Megan and Harry tied the knot, Thomas, 74, admitted to staging photos of himself reading a book about Britain and Google searching articles about his daughter. Thomas later told TMZ that he “meant no harm to Meghan or the royal family when he made a deal to allow a photo agency to take pics of him getting ready for the wedding and had a reason and it was not principally about money.”

We just learned that before this, however, that Harry warned his then-father-in-law to-be to stay away from paparazzi. “Harry told me that I should never go to the press. That it would end in tears. He said, ‘They will eat you alive.’ He was right,” Thomas shared.

So naturally, once reports surfaced that Thomas staged the photos, Harry called him to discuss the matter before the story really broke. But it wasn’t a simple conversation between the two (whom to our knowledge have never met, by the way). Thomas revealed he actually lied to Harry initially. “No, I was being measured for a hoodie,” he confessed to the 33-year-old royal when he asked.

That didn’t go over well, though. According to Thomas, he actually hung up on the Prince of England (yes, hung up) during the heated argument. Meghan’s hubby allegedly told Thomas this “never would have happened” if he had listened to his earlier advice and Thomas didn’t like it.

Before hitting the end button on the phone, Thomas said he left Harry with some intense words. “Maybe it would be better for you guys if I was dead… then you could pretend to be sad,” he shared.

Today, however, he said he’s over it despite the fact that Harry and Meghan have not spoken to him in months. Thomas claimed, “I’m not mad at Harry. I’m not mad at Meghan. I love them. I wish them well. But as for the rest of it, f–k it. I’m done.” So are we, Thomas. So are we.
