“Welcome to the day after Judgment Day,” proclaims Paramount Pictures regarding the new film Terminator: Dark Fate, which reunites Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in an adventure to save humanity’s future from the artificial intelligence known as Skynet.

The franchise began in 1984 from writer/director James Cameron as a low budget movie simply titled The Terminator, which was such a hit that it led to the big budget 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Cameron then left the franchise, but that didn’t stop various owners from attempting to keep things going, as they did with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015) and the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles (2008-09). None of them really made an impression — but Dark Fate could be different. For starters, Cameron has returned, penning the story and serving as producer, while Tim Miller (of Deadpool fame) is directing.

Will it work? The new trailer is promising, but we’ll find out on November 1, 2019.
