Taye Diggs Steps Out With New Girlfriend 6 Months After Split From Idina Menzel

Broadway fans may still have hope Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel will get back together, but when the actor arrived at Sunday’s BET Awards, the woman on his arm suggested otherwise.

The Private Practice star brought girlfriend Amanza Smith Brown as his date to the event and wasn’t shy about packing on the PDA with his new love, six months after his split from Idina.

According to various reports Taye and the model have been dating for a while, though it remains unclear whether their relationship started before December, when he announced his separation.

After 10 years of marriage — the couple met in the musical “Rent” — Taye said he understood why people were shocked by the announcement.

“I’d be lying if I said there weren’t times when I thought, ‘Oh, man, people are going to trip out [if we split],'” the 43-year-old shared with Redbook magazine.

“There weren’t a lot of couples like us in the theater community…It was easy for people to root for us. Right now, we’re still trying to figure out a lot of stuff because we’re on different coasts and our son is getting older,” he added.

The former couple shares 4-year-old son Walker, who splits his time between Taye in LA, where the actor is filming his new TNT series Murder in the First, and Idina in NYC, who is currently starring on Broadway in “If/Then.”

Before his separation, Taye hinted to Closer at a Men’s Health event that his marriage was on the rocks, admitting, “It’s work. Relationships take work, you know. We’re still working at it.”
