Taraji P. Henson Gives Emotional Speech at Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Ceremony: ‘I Said I Would Never Give Up!’
Empire star Taraji P. Henson is living her best life this year! On Monday, January 28, the 48-year-old actress was honored with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and when she took the podium to talk about her path to showbiz success, Taraji couldn’t help but joke about one of her most popular films, Hustle & Flow.
“I am so honored because it’s hard out here for a pimp,” she joked. Taraji then got very emotional once she saw her 24-year-old son, Marcell Johnson, standing in the crowd next to her mother, Bernice Gordon, and her 94-year-old grandmother.
“I’m a mom. I have a son, when I set out on this journey I said I would never give up because if I give up what am I teaching my son,” she said while fighting back tears. “If I give up, what am I teaching those who look up to me? So everything I do is for a generation of those coming up behind me because if it wasn’t for the generation before me, I wouldn’t be standing before you.”
