“Just a few days ago, [Tamron] received an email from the executive producer congratulating the 9 a.m. team for being No. 1 for the last seven weeks,” a source revealed to People. “Then on Friday, minutes before going on MSNBC they told her that she and Al [Roker] are being taken off the air.”

“She couldn’t believe they told her right before she had to go on air. She was definitely shocked,” the insider continued. “In Tamron Hall style, she went on air and acted like the classy professional that she is.”

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, NBC announced Tamron’s abrupt departure from Today, NBC News and MSNBC. A source later revealed that Tamron was reportedly offered a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to stay with NBC but turned down the opportunity — leading many fans to speculate Megyn’s addition to Today caused her to exit the show.

“Yesterday was [Tamron’s] last day as an anchor on both networks. Tamron is an exceptional journalist, we valued and enjoyed her work at Today and MSNBC and hoped that she would decide to stay. We are disappointed that she has chosen to leave, but we wish her all the best,” a statement from NBC News read.

Though Tamron has not disclosed the reason for her surprise exit, another Today insider claims “there’s bad blood.” On Thursday, Feb. 2, the journalist’s co-star Al addressed her decision to leave the show. “As some of you may have heard by now, our good friend Tamron Hall has decided to leave NBC News,” he said. “Personally, Tamron has been not just a co-host here on Today’s Take for the past three years but a good friend — and not just to me, to all of us here.”
