A source told People that Tamron was reportedly offered a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to stay with NBC but turned down the opportunity — leading many fans to speculate Megyn Kelly‘s addition to Today is causing her to exit the show.

“Yesterday was [Tamron’s] last day as an anchor on both networks. Tamron is an exceptional journalist, we valued and enjoyed her work at Today and MSNBC and hoped that she would decide to stay. We are disappointed that she has chosen to leave, but we wish her all the best,” a statement from NBC News read.

“The last 10 years have been beyond anything I could have imagined, and I’m grateful,” Tamron said in a message released by the network. “I’m also very excited about the next chapter. To all my great colleagues, I will miss you and I will be rooting for you.”

Tamron previously joined MSNBC in 2007 and later joined the Today cast in 2014. She hosted the hit morning talk show’s third hour, Today’s Take, alongside Al Roker.

Earlier this year, Megyn announced she was leaving Fox News to instead join the Today team. At the time, rumors swirled the 46-year-old journalist was being groomed to replace Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, 45, who has been on maternity leave since giving birth to son Charley in early December.

Weeks later, reports surfaced that Megyn was instead pushing Al, 62, out of the show’s popular third hour. “The format is still in progress, but she will most likely be hosting the hour on her own,” an insider revealed, adding that Megyn’s new Today gig will likely begin this fall.
