The Windsors aren’t the only royal family making headlines this week! Princess Madeleine of Sweden has announced that she and her royal family are moving to Florida this fall. Yes, seriously!

Madeleine, 36, and her husband, Christopher O’Neill, 44, revealed the news in a press release posted to the Swedish royal family’s official website on Thursday, Aug. 2. “Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O’Neill are planning to move to Florida in the United States this autumn. The time and opportunity for [a move to] the United States is good for the family [while] the children are still in pre-school age,” the message, translated from Swedish, read.

“Princess Madeleine has a great commitment to children’s rights and will continue working with the World Childhood Foundation and, through the move, be able to focus more on the activities in the United States,” the statement explained. “Mr. Christopher O’Neill has previously [worked] in the United States but will continue his business in Europe.”

Madeleine and Christoper tied the knot in a lavish royal wedding in June 2013 and are now parents to three children: daughter Princess Leonore, 4, son Prince Nicolas, 3, and daughter Princess Adrienne, 5 months.

Depite being Swedish royalty, Princess Madeleine and her British-American financier husband have strong ties to the US. The couple first met in NYC back in 2010 while Madeleine was working for the World Childhood Foundation, a charitable organization which her mother, Queen Silvia, co-founded. Their first child, daughter Leonore, was also born in the Big Apple.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Madeleine and Christopher are thought to be relocating to Palm Beach, FL to live closer to his mother. The couple will allegedly still maintain their two homes in both London and Stockholm despite their move.

Interestingly, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet has reported that Princess Madeleine’s three children may be at risk of losing their royal titles if the family resides in Florida long-term. Apparently, Sweden’s order of succession requires that “successors must be raised as Protestants” and “they have to be raised in Sweden.” We can’t wait to welcome the Swedish royal family to the US in just a few months!
