If you assumed Susan Lucci had told everyone in her life that she was “lucky to be alive” after undergoing an emergency heart surgery last fall, you’d be wrong. The iconic soap opera star recently told Us Weekly that she hasn’t told her mother, Jeannette, about it just yet — and has no plans to do so.

“You know, the truth is I didn’t tell her,” Susan, 72, revealed at the ADAPT Leadership Awards in NYC on March 14. “My mother was a nurse on top of it and I just didn’t want to scare her.”

In lighter news, Jeanette just celebrated her 102nd birthday! For the grand occasion, the actress — best known for portraying Erica Kane on All My Children — ventured down to the Sunshine State to celebrate with husband Helmut Huber, whom she has been married to since 1969, in tow.

Susan also confessed that her late father, Victor, is another reason she hasn’t been honest with her mom. Victor passed away back in November 2002.

“We haven’t talked about it. I don’t want to,” Susan added, expressing that she hopes her mom has yet to hear about the news. “You know my dad passed away from [heart disease], so I don’t want to bring it up. But he lived to be in his eighties.”

Just last month, the Devious Maids star opened up about her health scare. She ignored the pain and tightness in her chest at first but, eventually, she went to the emergency room. Turns out, she had 90 percent blockage in one of her arteries and 70 percent blockage in another. This, a cardiologist explained, means Susan could have “suffered a significant heart attack or even sudden death” if left untreated.

Now, Susan believes she has been given a second chance at life and is using her story to inspire others. “Even if it’s one person I help,” she noted at the time. That is someone’s life.”

As for what’s next store for Susan, thankfully there’s no threat of her stepping away from the spotlight anytime soon. She told Closer Weekly last year that there are no plans to to retire because “that is not a word in my vocabulary!” In fact, she has also told us she would return to Dancing With the Stars and also divulged that her secret to staying young is never having the “desire to slow down.”

No matter if Susan does stumble, we know this TV legend will always bounce back in style.
