If you’re currently reading this, then you know that Steven Spielberg has been a part of your youth in one way or another. The man only introduced the world to the summer blockbuster and completely captivated audiences with films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and more. But while the 72-year-old has his name on hundreds of films, and a lot more on the slate for the near future, he’s done more than just entertain crowds for decades. He’s actually created a family, too.
The director, producer, and all-in-all a Hollywood pioneer has seven children. Steven’s first child came with his now ex-wife, actress Amy Irving. After meeting on the set of Close Encounters in 1976, the pair dated for a while, split in 1979, then rekindled their romance again in 1984. One year later, they not only had their first baby, naming him Max, but they also got married. In 1989, the pair divorced — a divorce that cost about $100 million — but that didn’t stop Steven from marrying again, as he tied the knot with actress Kate Capshaw in 1991 after meeting her on the set of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom.
Kate, now 65, already had one daughter, Jessica Capshaw, from a previous marriage to Robert Capshaw, as well as an adopted son, Theo, but together, she and Steven went on to have four kids, with one more of them adopted. In total, that’s seven kids that can say they’re part of the Spielberg/Capshaw clan.
