Just more than a year after filing for divorce from her estranged husband, Sherri Shepherd is opening up about how she’s coping since the breakup — and revealed maintaining a positive attitude has helped her get through this tough time.

“Sometimes things don’t work out and you find out the person you’re with is a completely different person. But I’m working through it. I refuse to let anything hold me down,” the 48-year-old actress told Closer Weekly during a preview event for her new LUXHAIR NOW by Sherri Shepherd line of high fashion wigs on Tuesday, June 23.

Sherri and her second husband, Lamar Sally, 44, separated after nearly three years of marriage in May 2014. Before their split, the couple allegedly planned to have a child via surrogate — using Lamar’s sperm and another woman’s egg — until the TV star had a change of heart just a few months into the surrogate’s pregnancy.

The former pair’s longstanding custody dispute over the child was resolved in April when a Pennsylvania judge ruled Sherri is the legal mother of Lamar’s now eight-month-old son, Lamar Sally, Jr. She is also a mom to a 10-year-old son, Jeffrey, from her first marriage to Jeff Tarpley.

“I think that when you go through stuff, as long as you get up, you have another chance to get it right. Right now, we’re working things out in court. I’ve got a bunch of lawyers that I pay every single month. It is what it is,” the former cohost of The View told the magazine.

“Everybody’s got something, it’s just about how you handle it. For me, I’m going to handle my situation by smiling my way through it. I’m going to get up every day and have a sense of humor.”
