Calling all Gladiators! Kerry Washington‘s power-wielding, white-hat-wearing superwoman alter ego, Olivia Pope, sadly won’t be gracing our TV screens anymore. Scandal ended after seven seasons on Thursday, April 19, and we will miss the hit ABC show so much.

And we clearly won’t be the only ones. Kerry took to Instagram after the series finale to pen an emotional goodbye to all her dedicated fans with photos of herself laying on the Oval Office floor by herself and with the cast. “This picture was taken when we completed filming our very final scene in the Oval Office set. So many of @scandalabc’s most iconic scenes happened in that Oval. It has been, in many ways, the center of our #Scandal universe,” she wrote. “Other sets were already being dismantled and we knew this one would be next. So, before saying goodbye, I stretched out on that gorgeous rug and tried to just take it all in. Swipe! Soon after, a few beloved crew members joined. Because… why not? LOL.”

Tomorrow morning I will wake up and begin to try to process the magical dream of the past seven seasons. I imagine it will take some time to really understand what just transpired in my life. But, this much, I know… I am filled with endless gratitude for our #Scandal Family. Our glorious cast & crew and our community of #Gladiators. TOGETHER, we have changed history. Transformed television. And illuminated each other’s lives. Thank you for watching. And tweeting. And being with us!!!! With love & gratitude, My very best – Kerry

Why did Scandal end?

Ah, the million dollar question. Despite the fact that the political thriller is a success for ABC, Shonda always saw an ending for the show. Multiple sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she envisioned the show having seven seasons. During Season 4, she noted that it wasn’t a “10 season or eight season show.” She explained that one of the series’ central plotlines — Olivia and Fitz’s relationship — had to come to end (much to the dismay of fans).

“I think there’s only so much Scandal you can tell satisfactorily,” she said. “The Fitz-Liv thing can only be told so long and in such a way… I’ve already decided how long that is and what that’s going to be.” Lucky for us, we can sleep at night knowing Fitz and Olivia seemingly live happily ever after (thanks Scandal for letting us watch that final hookup).

What season did Scandal end on?

The drama’s seventh season aired its finale on Thursday, April 19 — and the final season was a great one. Scandal might be part romance, but it would be nothing without its whip-smart political sabotage. Shonda previously referred to the final season as “Olivia’s Swan Song.”

Where can I watch Scandal now that it’s over?

If you need to catch up on past seasons, you can binge-watch previous seasons on streaming sites like Netflix to refresh yourself on the series. To watch episodes from Season 7, check out ABC.com!

We’ll miss this show in the #TGIT lineup, that’s for sure!
